Euro Beinat holds an MSc in Computer Science and a PhD in Economics. He has 20 years of experience in management, consulting and R&D. At present he is Professor of Geoinformatics at Salzburg University (Austria), Chairman of the Currentcity foundation (Amsterdam, Netherlands) and member of the board of Nuvola Verde Foundation for Digital Sustainability (Milano, Italy). His business affiliation is with Zebra Technologies Corporation (Chicago, US), as Vice President Platform Technologies. His home base is Amsterdam, Netherlands.
As Academic, he is a member of the leadership team of the PhD School on Geospatial Sciences at Salzburg University and leads research on the Internet of Things, Collective Sensing and Sensor Analytics. A recognized expert in these fields, he advises executives in public and private organizations on emerging technologies – such as Internet of Things or Data Analytics – from an operational and a strategic long-term perspective. He is a skilled analyst and facilitator, able to position innovation within the business and culture of organizations and their evolution. Euro Beinat is a regular speaker at scientific, media and business conferences and has published several papers and books in topics ranging from strategy making, emerging technologies and natural resource management.
He coined the term « Collective Sensing » for describing the growing science and practice of measuring and predicting the dynamics of large complex systems, such as cities, based on aggregating anonymous digital breadcrumbs continuously left by all of us during daily personal or business activities.
