  The speaker works in the ‘Urban Development and Territorial Cohesion’ Unit
  of the Directorate General ‘Regional Policies’ of the European Commission. She is in charge of the Interservice Group on Urban Development and has been responsible for conducting
  a reflexion process on ‘Cities of tomorrow’ since mid 2010.

  From 1995 to 2004, she was coordinator of the Open & Distance Learning/Minerva action of the European Socrates programme (European cooperation in education).

  Before joining the Commission in 1988 she has been involved, as a social science researcher, in urban research from 1975 to 1978. She then specialised in investigating the social and organisational impact of new technologies. She wrote a book and contributed to several publications on the educational use of ICT and on the impact of new technology.
